Transformation was originally written in 1973 and revised in 2013. It lasts just under 10 minutes and is in one movement.
This solo is a kind of theme with variations, but the variations are more like developments of the original theme, based on a modal tonality of G. There are essentially four sections following the theme, elements of the first of these forming a bridge between the second and third. The third section is the only one that has a regular metre and has a 6/8 time signature, the other sections being without metre.
