This short piece for organ was written in July and August of 2021. The original idea for its structure and content came from our newly-restored garden pond and it was intended to be a straightforward representation of the different levels, from the deepest to the surface. It soon evolved into something much more serious however, its mood being strongly affected by the news of the time: disasters caused by global warming, the continuing Covid 19 outbreaks and, not least, the situation in Afghanistan.
The general structure of the piece is of 3 sections in which the music moves higher up the register towards the quiet ending. Phrases from the Lutheran hymn Aus tiefer Not schrei' ich zu dir (Out of the depths I cry to thee) appear at times.
