Additional Information

Written especially for, and with the helpful advice of Osian Ellis and first performed by him at the North Wales Music Festival, St Asaph.  A second version of the Aubade has been published (and may be found here) under the title Ritual Dance - At Dawn.

Commissioned by the North Wales Music Festival with financial assistance from the Welsh Arts Council.

The performing score and MIDI realization of this version may be also obtained from: https://www.scoreexchange.com/scores/91470.html

Performance notes

Metronome marks are entirely optional: in fact, all all tempi markings should be treated with the greatest freedom and pauses, breaks, relaxations in tempo, etc. should be used/added or subtracted at will.

Pedal glissandi are notated using cross-heads: such notes need not be restruck.

Arpeggio marks, where used, suggest broad (as opposed to "tight") arpeggiation, but this - as ever - must be at the discretion of the performer.

All glissando passages are to be regarded as entirely free-hand.

Markings shewing specific pedal changes haved been avoided but advisory accidentals have occasionally been provided to eliminate doubt, as I imagine no two harpists will have same idea about precisely where pedal changes should occur.

Legato markings are advisory not mandatory.
