Phillis the Fair

The first two of these Robert Burns settings date from 1972, although ‘Phillis’ was composed for voice and chamber orchestra and was not arranged for voice and piano until 1985. The third song started out as an instrumental solo for Highland bagpipe in 1986, but the words of Burns’s poem had much influenced the tune and, so, it was little effort to produce a song version in 2020.
