Three Mostly Bowed Strings

Instrumentation

Keroncong Cello

Additional Information

Dedicated to and written for Alfian Adytia, as part of his final masters recital at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague. The piece came about from being approached by Alfian to write a piece on a Keroncong Cello. Traditionally such instruments are played pizzicato and serve as one of the elements of the rhythm / comping section of Keroncong music. As the title suggests, I wanted to use the instrument in a different way, by using a cello bow which is found on a western cello. Throughout the piece, I utilise all of the three strings.
