This setting of Magnificat was originally composed to form part of a larger composition (At the Edge of the World for vocal ensemble, in which it serves as part of a Vespers service witnessed by an anchoress through a narrow squint), but was always intended to form an independent, free-standing composition, suitable for service or concert performance.
Magnificat was composed in York in the spring of 2021 and has been recorded by Ex Corde Vocal Ensemble, directed by Paul Gameson.
