In the flags by the river's brink

Additional Information

In the flags by the river's brink is written for 2 flutes, viola and cello.

It is inspired by biblical story of Moses; my studies of Debussy and in particular Syrinx for unaccompanied flute, a piece with which I am very familiar and have played for many years and my studies of the Ancient Greek Modes, particularly the Phrygian mode, which is the basis for this piece.

This piece explores voice and reflection in its many forms.

There are seven short connected movements with an overarching structure of ABACABA form. Each repetition of A is elaborated, returning to the simple opening form for the final repetition.
