Solent Shanty Sing is a large-scale Sea Shanty project for schools in Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton. In Autumn 2022 I devised composition workshops with different age ranges in a small number of schools. Lyrics, drawings and musical ideas emerged which inspired the contents of the songbook. In 2023, massed singing events, each with 900+ schoolchildren took place at Ventor Botanic Gardens, Isle of Wight (9 June), Southampton's Weston Shore (June 14) and West Quay Walls (June 16) and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard (June 23).

Commissioner: Solent Shanty Sing was commissioned by Hampshire Music Hub, Isle of Wight Music Hub, Portsmouth Music Hub and Southampton Music Hub to celebrate ‘The Year of The Coast’.

Creative Team: Solent Shanty Sing was curated, compiled, arranged, designed and sometimes composed by Emily Peasgood, with the support of musicians Dani Osoba and Sam Slattery. Many of the songs in the book were inspired by schoolchildren in Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton, who contributed ideas, drawings, and sometimes words.
