The first piece I wrote after returning from my transformative Erasmus in Russia. It is a single movement work with obvious influence from Shostakovich in its sparse sound-world. Structurally however this work started a fascination with organic, single climax structures which dominated my work over the following year or two. The piece is dark in tone, built around an incredibly long D pedal where a B minor and Bb major chord pivot around constantly building tension with only slight releases on the way to short burst of energy before returning to the obscurity of before.
