Additional Information

'Night and Sleep II (2017) is a work inspired by the Pre-Raphaelite painting of the same name by Evelyn De Morgan (1855-1919). The painting features two figures, Night, and her son, Sleep, drifting across a landscape whilst scattering sleep-inducing poppies on the world below so that woes and worries can be forgotten for a short time. The piece seeks to create a restful atmosphere; cyclic patterns drift downwards to emulate the falling scarlet petals of poppies. However, this occurs alongside moments of instability, as the respite of sleep only lasts a short while.' ©G.E.M.2017
