Drawing from Life

Additional Information

For this piece, I decided to set this beautiful, haunting poem by Reginald Shepherd, which is told from the perspective of a sick man as all the familiar things around him begin to take on different meanings. I wanted to convey the feeling of sinking that runs through the poem through the sinking chromaticism of the harmony. The steady crotchet pulse gives a sense of the character’s awareness of ticking time.
