Additional Information
The name Bangzi derives from a small wooden percussion which is predominantly used in traditional Chinese Qing operas and became known as Bangzi Opera. For this piece, I’m trying to depict the many characters for solo recorder, such as opera singer, player and percussionist. My intention is to blend the recorder’s features with some traditional Chinese elements. There are four movements in this piece that follow the traditional form of Qing Opera. They are:
I: Rubato
II: Lento
III: Allegro
IV: Rubato – Presto
