In these two connected scenes Satan discovers the newly-created Earth, and Adam and Eve, and plans to corrupt them, in revenge against God. He takes on the form of the Serpent and persuades Eve to eat the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge; she then persuades Adam to do the same, and the Fall of Man ensues.
