This piece was written from February to March of 2018 for after it was commissioned by the Martin Read Foundation. For the centenary year of the end of the First World War, I along with two other young composers, were given a choice of First World War Poems to set for Baritone and Piano. The poem chosen for this piece was 'On Somme' by Ivor Gurney.
