Snow for Christmas

Additional Information

I chanced upon Bernard O’Donoghue’s short poem ‘Christmas’ in 2008, in the same anthology as Rowan Williams’s ‘Advent Calendar’ (see my setting). I wanted to write a rich, sonorous work for men’s voices, and perhaps a Christmas piece that wasn’t particularly religious. I was subsequently in touch with the poet, and sent him the recording.  He said: 'It is a considerable understatement to say that this made my day. Thank you so very much for setting the poem and sending it to me. It really is one of the most gratifying experiences of my life! And what a wonderful choir!'
