Additional Information

S L O W was a site-specific, promenade piece performed at Durham Castle on March the 16th, 2019, as part of The Occasion Collective's multi-media takeover of the castle.

Performers:

Jamie Cook - Electronics

Will Hammon - Vibraphone

Merle Harbron - Violin

Ceitidh Mac - Cello

Adam Sams - Bass Clarinet

The four acoustic musicians (following a broad graphic score) improvised long notes that were manipulated live into rhythmic pulses, controlled and articulated by Cook, played back on a network of speakers spread throughout the castle. The audience were invited to walk around the castle during the performance, exploring both the physical and sonic environment. The piece was performed alongside a film by Adam Goodwin accompanying the musicians in the great hall, a video installation by Bex Harvey spanning the surrounding corridors and the exhibition of a vase created by James Pickering.

The work was commisoned by Hazel Donkin of Durham University's Centre for Visual Arts and Culture.
