This was my first foray in to writing miniatures, a form that has reappeared numerous times in my subsequent work. Inspired, in part, by Berg's 4 pieces for Clarinet and Piano Op. 5, I set out to explore ways of creating a blend between two such seemingly dosparate instruments. Each movement creates a particular relationship between the instruments, a particular musical space.
