Vignette for Orchestra
Premiered by the City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra in their Composition Challenge 2024 workshop, held on the 1st April 2024 at Heeley Hall, Birkdale School, Sheffield, UK. The event was facilitated by CSYO conductor Chris Gayford and guest composer Tom Harrold.
SYNOPSIS
What's 'To Be Continued?' .... maybe the music, life, a potential relationship, a new venture; beginnings, hope.
The title leaves it open ended as a musical idea but also in terms of what it’s about. I prefer to not limit the listener’s experience or prescribe what I want the music to convey by giving it a narrative. It being such a slight work, I saw it as an impressionistic exercise and set out to capture a moment/evoke a feeling. If it speaks to you what it says is entirely personal, it’s your side of the connection - instinctive and intuitive.
