The Women of Troy is a Greek tragedy by Euripides. The Music in this album was written for a Production of the Don Taylor's Translation of this play. Performed by a cast from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Acting School.
The setting for this production was a Hotel in Nevada in 1998. Director Niall Phillips skilfully sets up a modern placement for the world of brutality and suffering unfolding within the text. 90's HipHop specifically the '98 Ice Cube "War and Peace" album is an inspiration for the music.
This production used a large amount of underscoring creating a tension against which the actors deliver some extremely powerful and gut wrenching monologues.
