This piece was written from Janurary to March of 2018 for after it was commissioned by the Martin Read Foundation. For the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, I along with two other young composers, were given a choice of First World War Poems to set for Baritone and Piano. The poem chosen for this piece was 'On Somme' by Ivor Gurney.
