Fractal Mobiles for Tape and Orchestra
Browse Works
Additional Information
A piece for tape and orchestra written for University of Leeds Department of Music Orchestra.
The tape part consists of nine segments generated by a fractal algorithm which collectively form a musical voice within the orchestra.
The recursive algorithm is {NewX=Y-SquareRoot(BX-C); NewY=A-X; X=NewX; Y=NewY}. The choice of opening values for A, B and C significantly affects the character of the output from the program which was written by the composer and Kia Ng.
First performed in 1990 by the University of Leeds Department of Music Orchestra conducted by the composer.
