Additional Information

Curved Form (No. 14) is like a slowly rotating kaleidoscope - gradually shifting the same set of intervals around a central note to create subtly shifting images out of the same material. Inspired by the continuous repetition of simple forms in the work of Bridget Riley, the piece plays with altering perceptions of seemingly identical material. With every four notes played by the clarinet, a chord of nine notes is created through delays and pitch shifting. These gently evolving chords gradually become more angular and active as the piece progresses before dissipating back into the harmonies of the opening.

The piece was written for Jack McNeill and premièred as part of SOLO 06 at Handel & Hendrix in London on Thursday 22 November, 2018.
