Additional Information

Written for New European Ensemble, And Then Suddenly is an exploration of timbral convergence and divergence, projecting a variety of sonic textures through a shifting kaleidoscope of counterpoint and contrasts.

It was written for a sextet of unconducted instruments, including a scordatura harp part in which all C, E and G strings are 33 cents lower than usual. The piano is also performed in an unconventional manner, with the use of slides and dampening objects directly on the strings of the instrument.
