These 28 pop songs were written in 1967, a year when I had formed my own pop group consisting of lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass guitar and drums. I sang and played rhythm guitar and, sometimes, keyboards. In all these transcriptions, the keyboard part is self-sufficient, so the songs can also be performed by a piano-vocalist. The groups that most influenced me were the Beatles and the Kinks. Most of the songs contain little that can be related directly to my own life experiences, but there are a few exceptions. 'Hazel' was a song written when I was missing my sister Hazel, who was away from home on a school trip. 'Steve the Carpet Fitter' was a tribute to my friend Steve Mulvale, who worked in this profession for many years (and has been a friend for even longer). 'Marmalade' was inspired by a pet gold fish, who loved ant eggs.'The Ghost of a Dead Love' was triggered by passing the home of a former sweetyheart late at night.
The songs are for vocalist, keyboard guitar, drum kit and bass, with various additional or optional instruments.
