Spend a few hours with Sound and Music and the LGBTQ+ Music Study Group creating content to raise the profile of LGBTQ+ Composers on the British Music Collection.
Sound and Music and the LGBTQ+ Music Study Group will present a free, online edit-a-thon where we will collectively edit and add content about LGBTQ+ composers to the British Music Collection online platform.
What is an edit-a-thon?
An edit-a-thon brings people together to edit online platforms or communities and improve a specific topic of type of content. In this case, we want to improve the representation of LGBTQ+ composers on the British Music Collection.
Who is it for?
Driven by self-directed research in a friendly, small group environment, this edit-a-thon is aimed at students, academics and researchers – but is open to anyone who would like to get involved.
What do I need?
The event will be held over Zoom, and it would be handy (although not essential) to come with ideas for LGBTQ+ composers who’s profiles you would like to create, or improve. A list of LGBTQ+ composers to be added/edited will be available if you'd like a hand getting started.
We will start with short introductions from Sound and Music and the LGBTQ+ Music Study Group about, and why an event like this is important to both music and LGBTQ+ history. An introduction to editing the collection will also be given and Sound and Music staff will be on hand to support and help you get started.
