"It is rare nowadays to find piano music whose content could not be expressed equally effectively in another medium. Pianists therefore should give a special welcome to these two pieces, for their innate pianism is, in the Prelude, directed towards richly harmonic arabesques, and in the Runic Tale towards a song-like tune with shifting chromatic harmonies.  Both require experienced handling."
