For solo piano and audio playback.
Inspired by the virtuosity of Jerry Lee Lewis, the dazzling kaleidoscope of sound that is MIDI Pianos (1990) is scored for acoustic grand piano (designated “live” in the score) and audio playback which contains 3 instrument sounds: a synthesized piano, a synthesized piano with vibrato, and a digitally sampled piano (designated “1”, “2” and “3” respectively in the score.) The audio playback may be as tape or (preferably) digital sound from computer driven sound processors and the version on the CD available from Prima Facie was created by Barry using 90s technology.
