In Silence is written for a cappella SATB.
I began this composition on 8th May 2020 on the 75th anniversary of VE Day during a world in ‘lockdown’.
My inspiration comes from Thomas Hardy’s poem ‘And There was a Great Calm’. I used some of the words of the poem along with the referenced bible verse from the Gospel of Mark (4:39) when Jesus awakes with the boat tossed in the storm: “And He arose and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea; Peace, be still. And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.”
I have writen In Silence for the 75th anniversary of VE day and VJ day, the forgotten end to World War II, and in memory of all the sacrifices made by so many people.
It is intentionally simple in style.
I hope for a future for the world where humanity is united in peace.
