Franklyn Oliver

Biography

Franklyn Oliver (1999) is a composer from Manchester based in London. His first introduction to music was at the age of seven when he joined his local brass band, and had a cornet thrust into his hands. He is currently finishing a BMus in Composition at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

Franklyn's music covers a broad range of styles, from large orchestral works to homemade instrumental duets. As a result of his brass banding background, he tends to go a little over the top when writing for trumpets and trombones, ah well...

He is incredibly passionate about writing music for dance, and frequently works with his close friend and collaborator Laurence Brown. As well as this he has also written music for the Tough Boys Dance Collective, and has recently finished a collaboration with choreographers from the USC Gloria Kaufmann School of Dance.

Currently, he is writing a ballet named Zapatista Stories which will feature dance by Laurence Brown and Tuva Berglund. This will be premiered on the 31st May 2023.
