Ethel Boyce was an English composer and pianist. Born in 1863 in Chertsey, Surrey Ethel went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied piano with Walter Macfarren and composition with F. W. Davenport. It was there that she met and befriended Dora Estella Knatchbull (née Bright) who was also a pianist and composer. Whilst at the Royal Academy of Music, Ethel won many prizes and accolades for her talents. These included the Lady Goldsmid scholarship, the Potter exhibition, the Sterndale Bennett Prize and the Charles Lucas Medal for composition. In 1890, she was also made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARCM). Despite this early promise, only a few of her works survive.
