Joanna Borrett

Biography

Joanna Borrett is a composer and cellist and she composes for strings and voice. Several of her pieces are included in the ABRSM and Trinity College exam syllabuses.

Joanna’s first string orchestra work – Clan – was recorded by Her Ensemble. On its release last year it was chosen as Album of the Weekend by Scala Radio and Video of the Day by Gramophone and the third movement has also been played on Radio 3's programmes Earlier and Classical Unwind. Two movements of Clan were recently played at the royal investitures at Holyrood Palace. Edinburgh University's String Orchestra will be performing Clan in November.

Joanna's music is published by SJ Music,  U.M.P. and she is a house composer at Kevin Mayhew. The recording of her song cycle Moments of Freedom has just been released and she has just completed three songs for unaccompanied choir called Songs of Belonging. In October Her Ensemble will be recording three of her new string orchestra pieces.
