Originally written for my own trumpet exam at RCS, these pieces are short, technical pieces which are all palindromic – they are the same backwards as they are forwards.

SOLOS is a fanfaric and rhythmic piece exploring the fascinating, natural shift in metre when its motivic, dotted rhythm is reversed.

NOON is a soliloquy exploring large intervals and sustained tone.

RACECAR is a ferocious scherzo with relentless quaver rhythms and spans across the full range of the instrument. In the middle is a passage featuring ‘ghost notes’ which produces the effect of a car horn (to nod to the amusingly palindromic title).
