Pastorale 2 is broadly in a ternary form, with the outer sections being slow and finally ending with shattering chords that penetrate long silences; and the faster middle section weaves its way through a variety of melodic motifs.
The first performance was given in 2016 by Ilpo Laspas in Finland, in the beautiful modern church at Oulu.
