Jake Adams (1996) is a composer, guitarist, ethnomusicologist and teacher from Brighouse, West Yorkshire. Jake completed his undergraduate degree at the University of York, studying composition within this time with Thomas Simaku and Roger Marsh. He then continued his studies at the University of York, graduating in 2019 with an MA in Music with distinction supervised by Thomas Simaku. Jake has received composition lessons from composers including Wolfgang Liebhart, Joanna Bailie, Yuri Kasparov, Oscar Bianchi and Aaron Travers, and has presented his work at festivals including the St. Petersburg International New Music Festival 'reMusik.org', the Twisted Spruce Online Symposium and CoMA. Jake's work primarily explores the field of cross-cultural composition, incorporating elements and drawing influence from musics of cultures outside of the Western classical tradition (with his main focus being the music of South-East Asia). Respect for the cultures from which he is learning is key to Jake's work, and as such collaboration is a key factor within his practice. His work has been performed by ensembles and soloists including the Quatuor Diotima, Skipton Camerata, the Chimera Ensemble, Gamelan Sekar Petak, AMOK, The Arc Project, Jasdeep Singh Degun, Chinnawat Themkumkwun and Dark Inventions.

Jake is the founder and director of The Arc Project, a collaborative new music initiative. The project aims to create a new creative platform in the North of England for composers and performers, with a particular focus on collaborative and shared composition processes.
