Vinicius Motta

Biography

Vinicius is a Brazilian-English composer, arranger and educator based in Birmingham (UK). His diverse portfolio mainly explores performer’s independence within an ensemble, timbre, and aleatoricism, while also incorporating his Brazilian heritage through South American rhythms, Portuguese texts, and his lived experiences. His works have earned recognition through performances and recordings by esteemed ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Swan, Contemporary Music for All, Quatuor Bozzini and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Notable venues where his works have been performed include Symphony Hall (Birmingham), St John’s Smith Square (London), and the CBSO Centre (Birmingham).

Vinícius has extensive experience as an arranger and orchestrator, collaborating with various emerging ensembles in Birmingham. Most recently, he founded and directs BGME (Birmingham Game Music Ensemble), where he arranges and adapts video game music for chamber orchestra performances and recordings, fostering new audiences in classical settings.

Vinícius received the 2024 Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Orchestral Composition Prize, for his work for orchestra “CRY”. He was supported by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust during his first year of postgraduate studies (2024-25). In November 2024, he was awared the Musicians' Comapny Silver Medal.
