Nick Ray was born in Gillingham, Kent.  He attended Trinity College of Music between 1994-1998 and won prizes for piano and composition.  He continued his studies of the latter at St John's College, Cambridge, as a student of Alexander Goehr.  He taught music in schools for fifteen years before finally deciding to do something else.  He earns his living working for Kelly Group (installing broadband) but continues to compose.
