Emily Levy is an award winning British singer and composer with musical influences that range from medieval to classical, folk to jazz. She works closely with the voice and sound design and is particularly interested in blurring boundaries between stylistic genres and electro acoustic writing.

Recent Commissions: Composer in Residence with Streetwise Opera; Mary Beard’s ‘Amo Amas Amusical’, BBC R4; ‘A Mix Tape for Gus’, BBC R4; ‘In Paradisum’ for Marian Consort, SATB Choir and Children’s Chorus; ‘How Sweetly You Burn’ for Voice Vocal Trio; ‘Zoetroping’ for Thallein Ensemble, BOZAR Brussels; ‘Stuck Record’ for Project Instrumental; Oxford Youth Choirs ‘Unending Sky’; Solo Album, ‘Lost and Found’, and collaborations with Lee Fisher, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Japanese Contemporary Dance Network and Fuel Theatre UK.

A Song Cycle for Baritone Roderick Williams ‘The Rain is Coming’, created with writer Rommi Smith, presents a female perspective of Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin, supported by awards from PRS Foundation, Arts Council England and RVWT.

In 2018 Emily completed an MMus Composition (Distinction) at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where she studied with Ed Bennett, Joe Cutler, Howard Skempton and Errollyn Wallen.

Emily is one of eight ‘New Voices’ of 2019/20, Sound and Music’s major Artist Development Scheme.
