Isabella was born in Edinburgh, Scortland in 1786 - where it appears she remained throughout her life.

She taught music at a boarding school for young ladies she ran in Edinburgh, as well as being a performing harpist and composer - with many of her most popular songs being published in the Scottish Minstrel series (1821 - 1824).
