I wrote this piece for a workshop with the London Symphony Orchestra as part of their Panufnik young composers scheme. At the time I was very interested in abstract electroacoustic - or 'acousmatic' - music and the technique of granular synthesis was my starting point for this piece. I set out to find ways of creating 'granular' textures, textures made up of a large number of tiny particles of sound, making use of the harmonic control provided to me by massed forces of the symhpony orchestra. Each short movement is essentially one complex and constantly evolving texture.
