Emily Howard

Biography

Emily Howard is a British composer from Liverpool. As a child, she began learning the cello and writing music, as well as being a child chess champion. After obtaining a degree in Mathematics and Computation from Lincoln College Oxford, she then pursued a Masters in Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music. Emily also holds a doctorate in composition from the University of Manchester. Her music is known for its connections with science and she was the Leverhulme Trust Artist in Residence at the University of Liverpool’s Department of Mathematical Sciences in 2015. Other accolades for Emily’s music include the Paul Hamlyn Award for Composers and the British Composer Award. Emily is currently a Senior Lecturer in Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music, a visiting researcher at TORCH at the University of Oxford and the Director of PRISM: The RNCM Centre for Practice and Research in Science and Music.
