Robert Sword

Biography

Robert Sword is a composer and musician from southeast England. After studying Music and English Literature at Cardiff University, he has written soundtracks for film, theatre, television and games, as well as concert music for solo piano and a variety of instrumental ensembles.

He combines his classical training in the piano and clarinet with his interest in electronic, folk and rock music to create expressive, melody-driven music, often with electroacoustic elements. Previous theatre credits include Mom, How Did You Meet the Beatles? with Chichester Festival Theatre, 1984 with Bath Theatre Royal and Hedda Gabler with the Sherman Theatre Cardiff. Films include Falling Forever directed by Piper Hansen, the Science Museum's Collider exhibition and After the Setting Sun directed by Max Hanover.

Sword also arranges and orchestrates for a variety of other composers and ensembles. In 2016 he provided string arrangements for Damian Montagu's In A South Downs Way, which reached No. 1 in the UK's Classical Chart.
