Robert Dickinson

Biography

Following studies in Bayreuth with composer, Dieter Salbert, a circuitous creative trajectory from early experimentalism, through post-punk intersections to post-classical work.

In recent years collaborations with a range of artists and ensembles including CoMA, Komposit Orchestra, Siobhan Mooney (UK), Duo Avance (CH), Viktor van Niekerk (ZA), Negative Zed (CA).

Since the early noughties, an increasing emphasis on work informed by nature and the sacred, work which attempts to integrate both simple and complex structural elements. This has been further reflected in the creation of soundtracks for paintings by the artist Mary Barratt exhibited in Southwell Minster.

As a writer, Music and the Earth Spirit, a cross-cultural study examining the use of music and sound to commune with nature; interviews with composers Harold Budd, Roger Eno and Daniel Lentz for The Mouth Magazine.

Beyond music, interactions with natural landscapes through caving and climbing which have further impacted his creative aesthetic.
