Biography
Reuben Esterhuizen is a London-based composer and performer.
His work utilises minimal materials and intuitive systems, with a focus on reiteration, sound, and the process of work-making. Inspired by ceramics, his recent work has been concerned with finding approaches to working with sound that balances the relationship between maker and material. He is also interested in different practices of score-making and collaboration.
As a composer, he has worked with the Plus-Minus Ensemble, EXAUDI Vocal Ensemble, Musarc Choir, Ensemble 7 Bridges, Unfinished Collective, the Frankland Quartet and various individual performers. His work has been performed at Siobhan Davies Studios, IKLECTIK, Milton Court Concert Hall, Goodenough College, and The Place Theatre.
He is also interested in cross-disciplinary work, particularly enjoying working with choreographers and involving himself as a mover in collaborations.
He recently graduated from the Artist Master's course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he enjoyed studying with Paul Newland, Laurence Crane, Richard Baker, and Amber Priestley.
A frequent singer and guitarist, he enjoys performing experimental and improvised music of his own and others, notably with experimental choral collective, Musarc.
