Josephine Stephenson

Biography

Josephine Stephenson is a French-British composer and performer living in London. Her music has been commissioned by the BBC, Radio France, Arcal Lyrique, Wigmore Hall, Kings Place, Spitalfields Music, London Sinfonietta, Britten Sinfonia and Nonclassical among others, and broadcast on France Musique, BBC Radio 3 and Resonance FM. She has written for acclaimed ensembles and soloists including the London Sinfonietta, Aurora Orchestra, Miroirs Étendus, the Van Kuijk Quartet, The Hermes Experiment, Explore Ensemble, the Maîtrise de Radio France, tenor Allan Clayton, gambist Liam Byrne and violinists Fiona Monbet and Eloisa-Fleur Thom. 

Collaboration is central to Josephine's output and she regularly works together with theatre companies, filmmakers or pop artists. She is also one of the three Artistic Directors of the London-based concert series and record label Listenpony.

Josephine read music as an undergraduate at Clare College, Cambridge before completing a Masters in Composition at the Royal College of Music as a Richard Carne scholar under Kenneth Hesketh, graduating with Distinction in 2014.
