Biography
Joanna Borrett is a composer and cellist. Several of her pieces are included in the ABRSM and Trinity College exam syllabuses.
Joanna’s first string orchestra work – Clan – was recorded by Her Ensemble in 2024 and chosen as Album of the Weekend by Scala Radio and Video of the Day by Gramophone. The third movement has been played on Radio 3's programmes Earlier and Classical Unwind and Clan has been performed at the investitures at Holyrood Palace.
Joanna's music is published by SJ Music, U.M.P. and she is a house composer at Kevin Mayhew. Her beginner cello book – Wild Cello – was published last April and the recording of her song cycle – Moments of Freedom – was released last September. Her Ensemble has just recorded three of her new string orchestra works and the first of these – Then – is being released in April by Signum Classics. She has just completed a song cycle for unaccompanied choir called Songs of Belonging and her first commission – a work for cello ensemble called Sweet Silence.
