Eric Hudes

Biography

Eric Hudes was born in London in 1920. He subsequently lived in Manchester for many years and moved to Essex in 1967 where he lived until 2009. In earlier years he wrote much theatre music for Joan Littlewood of Theatre Workshop, ballet music for the Laban Art of Movement Studio, working with choreographers Sylvia Bodmer, Lisa Ullnann and with Rudolph Laban himself; and music for BBC Radio Feature programmes by D. G. Bridson. Since 1960 he wrote mainly for the concert platform and his many works have been widely performed. He is also active in promoting performances of the music of living British composers and founded the first composers’ co-operative publishing company in this country.
