Denis Drew Arundell
Biography
Dennis Arundell, was an English actor, singer, opera producer, writer on music, and composer. He was born on July 22th, 1898 in London, and died there on December 10th, 1988.
He studied at Tonbridge and with Rootham, Henry Moule, and Stanford at St. John’s Coll., Cambridge. Although he made appearances as an actor and singer, he was particularly noted as an opera producer in Cambridge (from 1922) and at the Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London (from 1946). In 1974 he became a teacher at the Royal Northern Coll. of Music in Manchester. In 1978, he was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire. Among his compositions were the operas Ghost of Abel and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1927).
