Bob Dickinson

Biography

Bob Dickinson is a composer whose work has evolved from early experimentalism through phases of minimalism and post-minimalism to his current distinctive style, incorporating extended tonality and complex rhythmic structures.

One of his early mentors was the German composer, Dieter Salbert, with whom he worked in Bayreuth and who exerted a significant philosophical influence on his creative trajectory.

His recent compositions are informed by interactions with nature and the sacred, blending simple and complex elements in finely structured pieces, underpinned by an aesthetic which embraces beauty whilst acknowledging tradition and the past.

"In my work I seek to cast a line between the past and the present, acknowledging the strength of tradition, yet moving forward with soundscapes that present a positive musical vision for the future." (Dickinson, 2025)

Performed by artists and ensembles in the UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, South Africa, and Canada, his music engages both performers and listeners through its subtle balance of texture, form, and clarity.
