Biography
Philip Armstrong is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London where he studied composition with James Illiff and electronic music with Paul Patterson. After winning the prestigious Manson Prize for composition, he received a scholarship to study for a Master’s degree in music composition at the University of California, Santa Barbara with Peter Racine Fricker and computer music with JoAnn Kuchera Morin. He has written 5 symphonies and 2 operas, and a wealth of music both for orchestral instruments and computer. Philip Armstrong has worked as an educator and an educational leader for more than two decades, including periods at Yokohama International School in Japan, Munich International School in Germany, Zurich International School in Switzerland, Hiroshima International School in Japan, Vienna International School in Austria, the International School of Ulm/Neu Ulm in Germany, and Tianjin Rego International School in China, and most recently 10 years at Thuringia International School in Germany. His music has been performed recently by Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. He is currently based in Vienna.
