Paul Archbold was born near Peterlee in the North East of England in 1964 and studied composition at the Royal Academy of Music and at the University of Durham. His compositions have been performed by several of the leading exponents of contemporary music in the United Kingdom including the Arditti Quartet, Exposé, Gemini, Kreutzer String Quartet, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and have been broadcast in Australia, Finland, Norway, Lithuania, and the UK. Wind-Up: chamber music by Paul Archbold and Fabrice Fitch (MSV CD92042), was issued on the METIER label to enthusiastic critical review and nominated for a Gramophone Critics’ Choice for 2000.. He has held lectureships at the universities of Huddersfield and Durham and was active in promoting contemporary music as artistic adviser of the Musicon concert series. He is currently Reader in Music at Kingston University London and Director of the Institute of Musical Research, School of Advanced Study, University of London.
